Laser Vein Removal for Varicose Vein Treatmentin Rockford, IL

Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted veins. While they can develop anywhere, they are most commonly found on the legs or ankles. Varicose veins can be either a harmless and purely cosmetic problem, or they can indicate a serious problem with the circulatory system. They can also sometimes be painful. As such, many people decide to seek varicose vein treatment.
How are Varicose Veins Treated?
There are many treatments for varicose veins ranging from self-care to surgical procedures. The various treatments have different goals that can include relieving pain, keeping the veins from getting worse or removing them.
The various self-care measures, for example, concentrate on pain relief and prevention of deterioration. Since being overweight is known to cause or exacerbate varicose veins, our doctor will likely advise a heavy patient to exercise and lose weight.
Compression stockings are often a first step in treating varicose veins. The stockings squeeze the patient's legs, and the pressure forces the blood to flow more efficiently. The stockings therefore prevent the blood from pooling in the way that causes varicose veins.
If the patient's veins don't respond to more conservative or self-care measures, or if the patient has a severe case to begin with, we will recommend laser procedures aimed at removing the abnormal vein or sealing it off from the rest of the circulatory system. The latter procedures cause the vein to eventually die and get reabsorbed by the body.
What is Laser Vein Removal?
This is a varicose vein treatment procedure that uses a laser to heat up the abnormal vein and seal it off from the circulatory system. The procedure is often used on patients with large varicose veins. It is performed in the comfort of our office.
How Can Small Varicose Veins Be Treated?
Lasers can be used to treat small varicose veins, too! The heat from the laser causes the vein to shrivel and die. It is eventually reabsorbed by the body. The patient may need more than one treatment, and subsequent treatments will be spaced apart. It all depends on your unique situation.
What is the Recovery Like?
Laser treatments have very short recovery times. The patient can usually resume their normal activities immediately after their varicose vein treatment.
