Bellafill® is a cosmetic treatment known as a dermal filler that is used to fill and smooth lines and wrinkles, particularly those deep lines that extend from the corners of the mouth to the end of the nose. These lines are called nasolabial folds. Bellafill® offers other uses, as well. We encourage you to learn more about this versatile treatment and whether you may be a good candidate for it.
The substance in Bellafill® is a unique formula of tiny beads of a material called polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) suspended in a bovine collagen gel. This combination gives a smooth, natural texture and appearance to the skin when injected beneath it.
In addition, the PMMA helps to regenerate the growth of collagen. Collagen is a natural protein found in the body that adds plumpness to young and healthy skin. As we age, collagen production slows down. Since continued collagen production is encouraged after the Bellafill® injections are given, the results of the treatment are long-lasting.
If you are a woman or man over the age of 18 who is in overall good health and does not have any active skin conditions in the area to be treated, such as acne or infections, you are likely a good candidate for Bellafill®. It’s important that you are given an allergy test prior to treatment to rule out an allergic bovine reaction. However, most people are good candidates.
Bellafill® is best for filling deep lines in areas with thicker skin. It should not be used to address delicate areas, such as the fine lines around the eyes.
What to Expect
During a typical treatment, the Bellafill® solution is simply injected into the skin of the treatment area. Depending on the area to be treated and the type of treatment you are desiring, it’s likely you will only require one session to achieve the desired results. However, this does vary. You can return to your regular routine right away. Just do not touch or rub the treatment area.
